MUSIC AT SAINT MARTINS

St Martin's Choir is a small but dedicated group of people who sing at the Parish Mass each Sunday morning and at the Sung Mass on Holy days. It also provides full liturgical music during Holy Week, Eastertide and the Advent and Christmas Seasons. New choir members are always welcome. The choir rehearses in church on Friday evenings at 7.30pm.

We use both the New English Hymnal and Celebration Hymnal and a good variety of Mass Settings. A motet is sung each Sunday during the administration of Holy Communion. The repertoire includes Plainsong, and a variety of styles from the likes of Handel and Bach... to Paul Inwood, Christopher Walker and Bernadette Farrell. We hope there is something for all tastes.

We have the pleasure of working closely with the other parishes in the North Torquay Mission Community, (St. Mary the Virgin, Saint Marychurch and All Saints’, Babbacombe) and with other Anglo-Catholic parishes in the Torbay Deanery and the surrounding area. So, from time to time the various choirs join forces and sing in each other’s churches.

THE CHURCH ORGANS
There are two organs in regular use at Saint Martin's:-

A three manual Viscount Envoy 350FV (Physis System) in the main church and a two manual Wyvern C220 (Bradford System) in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel. Both organs have dedicated Audio systems and are in an excellent state of repair.

The Wyvern C220 served the parish very well for almost twenty-five years in the main church, but was beginning to show small signs of its age. As a result, when the opportunity arose to obtain a Viscount Envoy 350FV organ at a very discounted price a few years ago, we felt it was too good an opportunity to be missed. Generous donors provided the money to purchase the instrument. Thank you.

The Wyvern C220 Organ remains fully operational and is installed in the Blessed Sacrament Chapel, where it is used for liturgies celebrated there.
